XENIA — Who would of thought a 4-H volunteering event would spark an interest in dog showing?
Keely Sims of Xenia has been a part of 4-H for five years. She originally showed horses, but volunteered at a dog agility competition and fell in love with dog showing.
Since then, Sims has put in a lot of practice. She trains with her dog, Layla everyday for at least 30 minutes.
Her training really showed at the state fair where she earned three gold medals.
Sims said, “I enjoy doing obstacles with my dog.”
The Greene County Fair Dog Show on Aug. 5 started early due to the chance of rain. Luckily, Sims and other competitors were able to complete the agility course and other competitions.
For the agility course, Sims led Layla through several jumps, tunnels, and other obstacles without a leash. Layla completed every part of the course and listened to Sims the entire time.
When Sims and Layla aren’t at the fair, they are at other dog competitions like disc and dock diving.
