Devotional: To whom shall we go?

0

“Simon Peter answered him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.’” (John 6:68-69)

Here it is, the question we all must ask? Where will we go for meaningful life? Who can we rely on for proper guidance? How can we obtain eternal life with our God? Peter realized, as he saw people leaving Jesus, that there was no one like Jesus. He had the Truth from God and indeed was God Himself. Why would anyone want to look anywhere else? Why would anyone want to turn from following Him?

As we live life there are expectations that we develop of people and even of God. We believe He should be our God in certain ways. He should respond to our prayers and heal us when we are sick. He should open doors for us when we need a new job. We expect Him to do “things” for us and when He doesn’t we turn from Him. How wrong we are. God is not in a relationship with us so that we can manipulate Him. He is in a relationship with us so that He can guide us to the Truth in Jesus Christ. We follow Jesus not because of what He does for us but because of what He has done for us on the Cross. He is our Savior and Lord. No, there is no place else to turn for the Truth. Jesus is our only hope of Eternal Life.

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus as our Way, Truth and Life. He is the One we follow. We know that there is no other way to relationship with You. You sent Him to the Cross and raised Him from the dead for us. We come to You because of Him. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
