Communities receiving grants for projects

XENIA — Cities, villages and townships in the county will share $430,000 in grant funds through the Greene County Department of Development (DOD).

Jurisdictions are encouraged to make capital improvements with the 2020 Municipal Grant Program funds, but are not limited, according to Kristie Tidd, DOD manager.

Greene County Board of Commissioners approved the transfer of appropriations during their meeting Jan. 16, indicating that they will send out the checks next week.

The total is slightly down from last year’s $500,000, but the funding is dispersed in a more balanced way this time, Tidd explained, with the smallest communities receiving more than they did last year. Each community received a letter in November with the amount they will receive.

City of Beavercreek (population 45,193) will receive $40,000; Bellbrook (population 6,943), $30,000; Bowersville (population 312), $10,000; Cedarville (population 3,963), $15,000; Clifton (population 104), $10,000; Fairborn (population 32,352), $40,000; Jamestown (population 1,993), $10,000; Village of Spring Valley (population 479), $10,000; City of Xenia (population 25,719), $40,000; Yellow Springs (population 3,487), $15,000.

Bath Township (population 7,040) will receive $30,000; Beavercreek Township (population 6,963), $30,000; Ceasarscreek Township (population 1,137), $10,000; Cedarville Township (population 1,537), $10,000; Jefferson Township (population 1,254), $10,000; Miami Township (population 1,303), $10,000; New Jasper Township (population 2,568), $15,000; Ross Township (population 750), $10,000; Silvercreek Township (population 1,745), $10,000; Spring Valley Township (population 2,102), $15,000; Sugarcreek Township (population 8,041), $30,000; Xenia Township (population 6,537), $30,000.

Populations listed are based on 2010 census data.

In 2019, communities used the funds for various projects including downtown improvements and village beautification, purchasing vehicles and equipment, road paving and new road signs, a new firehouse roof and playground equipment.
