U.S. 35 closures delayed

GREENE CO. — U.S. 35 is scheduled for temporary, short-term closures at the route’s intersections with T.R. 48 (Factory Road) and T.R. 1217 (Orchard Lane) for crews to drop electric for the installation of temporary signals that will be used during construction of the upcoming U.S. 35 Superstreet project.

Although the restrictions were scheduled to be imparted during the overnight hours this Thursday to Friday (March 19-20), they are now scheduled for next week, with U.S. 35 subject to closure for up to 15-minute intervals from midnight Thursday, March 26, to 5 a.m. Friday, March 27.

As the closures will be short-term, there will be no posted detour, and traffic will be maintained with law enforcement officers throughout the night. Arrow boards and/or signs will alert motorists of the work zone, and all work is contingent upon the weather.

The U.S. 35 Superstreet project calls for the elimination of the at-grade crossings of Factory Road and Orchard Lane by constructing signalized Restricted Crossing U-Turn (RCUT) intersections. While the side-street traffic is prohibited from turning left or crossing straight through the intersection, motorists will turn right onto the mainline (U.S. 35) and do a legal U-turn at a nearby one-way, signalized median crossover to follow their desired path.

To help ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce their speed and watch for stopped traffic while passing through the work zone.
