XENIA —It won’t be your typical “dog day afternoon” come Saturday, March 4, when Greene County Animal Control, 641 Dayton-Xenia Road, celebrates the one year anniversary of a special dog’s adoption.
Asher, a black and white mixed mastiff/pit, was adopted by Terri Scoby almost a year ago when he was eight weeks old. Scoby decided to mark March 4, the day of his adoption, as the dog’s birthday.
Scoby will be bringing Asher back where it all began a year ago and area pet stores are getting in on the fun.
“We are donating $3,400 worth of food and supplies to the shelter in his name,” said Catherine “Cat” Storost, manager of Feeders Pet Supply. “We thought it was so thoughtful of Ms. Scoby to ask everyone to donate to the shelter that she adopted Asher from in honor of his first birthday. We’ve gathered pet food, supplements, chews, toys, flea prevention, and treats that we are donating to Greene County Animal Control for use for their adoptable pets and to assist any pet parents in need. We will continue to collect donations up until March 3 and are looking forward to meeting Asher in person.”
Asher, who is becoming a celebrity, lives with his mom in Xenia along with a three-pound chihuahua Phoebe, and a cat named Gnocchi.
“Asher has attended obedience training through Dog Training Personalized and completed one-on-one training with his trainer, Sydney,” Scoby said. “He likes to walk through Lowe’s and Rural King when it’s too cold for the dog park. He is very watchful of our home — there is no dog aggression, he is a cuddly love bug. He is loved by everyone who knows him. What started as a birthday party with just friends has turned into a much-needed food/toy drive for the other dogs just like him waiting for homes at Greene County Animal Control.”
Donations can be made in Asher’s name.
