First ‘Opportunity Gala’ deemed a success

BELLBROOK — The Bellbrook and Sugarcreek communities recently came together to raise funds and awareness to help their most vulnerable community members reach their goals and break the cycle of poverty.

The first Evening of Opportunity Gala was hosted by the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Community Support Center at the Sugar Valley Golf Club in Bellbrook. More than 200 attendees — including clients, community leaders, and additional celebrants — made the event a spectacular success, according to organizers. A spirited and competitive live auction was conducted by professional Doug Sorrell, and featured sports memorabilia, jewelry and trips. Fifty silent auction items were available, with many community-donated theme baskets. The evening ended with lively dancing to the Hauer Swing Band.

“We would like to hire a social worker for our new program, Rise & Shine, which provides individualized wrap-around support to working-age families and individuals who are looking to increase their financial and overall stability,” said Kelsey Hurlburt, executive director of the BSCSC. We are so grateful to be a part of the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek community. We wouldn’t be here without your continued support.”

The BSCSC is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides comprehensive social work services, a weekly food pantry, life skills education classes, household necessities, birthday and holiday gifts, resource referral, familyfriendly activities, and emergency clothing to our most vulnerable community members.
