Cedarville student fulfilling sports dream through internship

CEDARVILLE — When summer approaches, many students transition from classes to work, and for Cedarville University junior communication major Hannah Kuczynski, that meant starting the internship of her dreams. Beginning in early June, Kuczynski began an internship with NBCUniversal in Orlando, Fla., as a direct-to-consumer services intern.

Kuczynski has always had an interest in working in the sports entertainment industry. Throughout her time in college, Kuczynski, who is originally from Macomb, Mich., has worked several internships to gain experience in the direction she’s headed.

“I knew from being a communication major that I needed to get experience early,” said Kuczynski. “Cedarville has lots of opportunities for students to get involved and go into things that you are interested in for the future.”

Throughout the last few years, Kuczynski has worked as a marketing intern for the United Shore Professional Baseball League, Detroit City Football Club, Campus Activities Board at Cedarville. She’s also a marketing executive for Cedarville’s Campus Experience Marketing Team. On top of these roles at the university, she also created her own role in the sports department at Cedarville as a sports information assistant.

“I’ve had many opportunities and they have all solidified my desire to enter sports entertainment,” said Kuczynski.

These experiences gave Kuczynski the desire to pursue opportunities with bigger, well-known organizations. After applying to NBCUniversal in December of 2022, she never thought she would be in the position she is now.

“It’s such a competitive job so just the fact that I have the opportunity to get an inside scoop into a massive and reputable company is really cool,” said Kuczynski. “The opportunities you can have on Cedarville’s campus have really helped because a lot of the skills on job descriptions pointed to my experience. I don’t think I would have gotten an interview without the experience I’ve had.”

This summer, Kuczynski’s role is with NBC Sports under the new GoldPass division. Her role consists of project management, communication and marketing strategy.
