XENIA — This year’s Greene County Fair has been ramped up yet again for a year of new events sure to entertain all week long.

One new event coming at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 1 is the KOI Drag Racing with ATVs and trucks. Racers will line up in the grandstands at the fairgrounds and fly around the track in an exhilarating display of speed and fun.

“This is a new event,” said Media Director Kala Benton. “We’re just now getting into the market.”

That’s not all.

“All week long we’ll have continuous shows,” said Benton. “From chickens to cattle, all sorts of animals will be showing. Come out early and grab your favorite fair food, there’s a lot of new vendors.”

This year will feature the second annual Sheriff Gene Fischer First Responder Memorial Hog Show, set for late Wednesday afternoon. It’s in memory of the former long-time sheriff who died in late 2021.

“During the first responder memorial show, we have local community members who are first responders come out, some of them have never shown a hog before,” said Benton.

These first responders will compete against each other to show the best hog and win a prize.

“It’s a fun event to watch some of our first responders compete against each other,” said Benton.

As usual, special deals will be running in the later half of the week. One particularly special deal, however, is the Food Pantry Discount Day on Aug. 2.

“We are in competition with other county fairs and donations of non-perishable items,” said Benton. The county fair in Ohio with the largest donation will win a $5 thousand award “for growing the education of agriculture in Greene County.”

Visitors can donate non-perishable foods that day and get a heavily discounted price, only $4, to get into the fair for the whole day.

“All the items collected will be kept here in Greene County and given to our local FISH Pantry,” said Benton.

For the kids, Friday afternoon the fair will be partnering with the local fire station for a Jr. Firefighter Combat Challenge.

“It’s a great way to learn and have fun,” said Benton. The firefighters will teach kids about safety and let them try out their skills in a fun and controlled environment.

Carnival rides will open at 4 p.m. each day except for Sunday, when they will be given a thorough safety inspection before opening the following day
