XENIA — The Kiev Symphony Orchestra and Chorus is bringing its Hope for Ukraine Tour to Greene County.

The female members of the group will be performing at Xenia High School at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3. It’s the 10th stop on the 13-city tour through the southeast. KSOC is part of Music Mission Kiev (MMK), which uses sacred music to spread and share the Gospel with Ukrainians.

The 28 choristers and six instrumentalists will perform sacred, classical, and then traditional Ukrainian selections in their native dress. The men are not allowed to come on this tour by order of the Ukrainian government because they might be needed to serve in the war with Russia.

MMK was created by former XHS vocal music teacher Roger McMurrin and his wife, Diane Nash McMurrin, a Xenia native. They have been active as conductor and musicians in Xenia churches, as well as in large Presbyterian churches in Florida and Dallas before creating MMK to introduce the musicians and their concert audiences to the love and hope in Christ, which they had been denied during the atheistic communist rule of the former Soviet Union. This unique way of ministering to the Ukrainian people also expanded to ministries for orphans, widows, children and now, displaced and war-wounded citizens.

The McMurrins — who now reside in nearby Lebanon — are planning to attend the concert.

The musicians will enjoy a supper provided by members of Faith Community United Methodist Church, while breakfast and lunch will be provided by members and friends at Xenia United Presbyterian Church.

The public is invited to attend this free concert. Donations are being accepted at the concert and can also be sent to Janine Montgomery, 72 Outerview Drive, Xenia, Ohio 45385.
