BEAVERCREEK — Greene County and Ohio leaders will be present for the first Leadership/Safety Sunday event at Victory Baptist Church in Beavercreek.

The event will take place at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 22 at 1020 Beaver Valley Road.

Although organizer Mark Ferrell has been doing leadership events like this for years, this is the first to be affiliated with Victory Baptist Church. Ferrell said he hopes to make this a regular annual event to honor local leaders prior to the November elections.

“It’s not politician against politician,” he said. “It’s just a very nice, small low-key event.”

Among those confirmed to be in attendance for the event are State Rep. Brian Lampton, Sheriff Scott Anger, Prosecutor David Hayes, Engineer Stephanie Goff, as well as Beavercreek officials including Mayor Bob Stone and council members Glenn Duerr, Charles Curran, and Don Adams. According to Ferrell, Governor Mike DeWine will also give a proclamation, and Secretary of State Frank LaRose expressed interest in attending.

Ferrell has served for years as a politician himself, and said his experience has equipped him to offer the leaders in attendance a “challenge” during the event.

“We’ll have a flag ceremony, and then each one will be given three to five minutes to talk to the church,” he said. “In the end, there’s going to be a challenge given by the church.”

Each leader will also be given a gift basket as a thanks for attending, and provided a meal afterward.

“The fire department will also be there,” said Ferrell. “And the church will make a donation to the fire department to help them out.”

The event is held just before the November elections, and Ferrell said he’s excited to give community members this opportunity to meet and ask questions for who they might vote for in an authentic way.

“It’s just a chance to meet some of the people in more of a loose setting,” he said.
