XENIA — The Greene County Sheriff’s Office recently honored Joseph Thorne, a long-time county employee, who retired as a sheriff’s deputy.

Thorne’s family, friends, and fellow deputies gathered to share in a retirement ceremony that included a shadow box containing a flag that had been flown over the GCSO, a GCSO uniform patch, and a plaque. Other gifts included a replica of the Greene County Courthouse presented by Greene County Commissioner Dick Gould.

Sheriff Scott Anger thanked Thorne for his 27 years of service to the community and the citizens of Greene County through a variety of job positions Thorne had held during his career. There was also a live recording by dispatch of Thorne’s badge number being retired.

“I enjoy the people I work with,” Thorne said. “I come to work every day with a smile on my face.

Thorne had previously served as a Greene County Parks & Trails ranger for 22 years until March 2018 when he joined the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. He has also served as a Jamestown police officer and a school resource officer. Now retired, he will serve as a reserve special deputy.

“Joe has been a good person to have on our team serving the citizens of Greene County,” Anger said. “We’re very happy to swear him in as a reserve special deputy, one of 21 very talented individuals who serve as special deputies.”
